Reirin is at one of the sound stages! Or is she...?
The scene Hak stumbles onto is one of a feast currently hosted at what seems to be a palace. The feast is full of nobles and court ladies and numerous government officials, their attention all on the figure standing in their midst. A young girl dressed in brilliantly golden robes, with white flowers tucked in her hair. A slightly older boy dressed in equally rich robes smiles down at her, awestruck with devotion.
In fact, everyone in the court yard is staring at the girl with affection. They crowd around her, calling out to her -- Lady Reirin, felicitations on your wedding! -- congratulating her on her position as empress, and her future with the crown prince.
The girl who looks nothing like Reirin smiles and nods, but the gaze in her eyes is distant as her crowd of well-wishers continue to fawn. They speak of the beauty of her fragility, how blessed she is to have come this far despite her terrible health, but no matter -- all she must do now is stay by the crown prince's side and remain cosseted and protected. She is their Kou Reirin, after all. She is their butterfly, and must forever remain so.
'Reirin' remains still as water, smiling softly, but her hands clench into fists in the folds of her skirts, trembling slightly, and every so often, her gaze darts around -- as if seeking an escape]
[ who the hell is this girl? that's not his reirin. fragile? terrible health? doesn't sound like reirin and her exhaustive workout routine at all. one thing's clear: he won't be able to get any answers if he just sits back and lets this happen.
which means....
about.....let's say some five minutes later, there's a disturbance. a figure, hood drawn low and a (prop) sword in one hand comes barreling in. his movements are swift, agile, and he's at reirin's side before anyone can draw breath. he holds the edge of his sword up against reirin's throat. ]
immediately, the party moves -- in that they shriek and cling and push each other to get a better look at the VILLAIN who's crashed a beautifully romantic wedding feast. the prince at Reirin's side clearly takes this bandit's word seriously at least, only lifting a single hand to stop his guards from rushing the pair. his face is white with horror, reflected in the shock of so many party-goers.
Reirin lifts her head, her impervious calm broken, her previously dull eyes widening with recognition. Her eyes cannot pierce his hood, but his movements are familiar! AND ALSO. HIS VOICE. SHE KNOWS WHO THIS IS?]
...Hak?
[even her voice sounds different. a curl of amazement delivered impossibly soft, like she has to count every breath before committing to it. but she does at least look significantly more lively than she did a second ago]
[ wow stop calling him out like this, he has a disguise to maintain. even though he literally didn't change his voice. ]
Who's Hak? I'm the Dark Dragon. [ okay. ] And unless you [ a swish of his (prop) sword towards mr. prince) ] agree to my demands, this girl gets it.
[ actually......hm. on second though. the sword stays pointed at mr. prince while he wraps an arm around reirin's neck. ah yes, much more believable this way, so long as no one looks too closely at how loose his grip is. ]
[it is like being hugged by a comfy, warm scarf, but it does the trick. it also helps stifle the giggle that threatens to escape reirin's mouth... the dark dragon..........
prince gyoumei is clearly furious, but his voice is measured and cool. what exactly are the dark dragon's demands????? hearing the words immediately make reirin tuck her face away, perhaps in a show of despair and fear...]
[ stop laughing!! stop it!!!! his dignity and perfomance are at stake here. right though. what are his demands again? he hadn't exactly gotten that far in his planning. ]
A million rin. [ or whatever equivalent currency they use here. ] Free room and board whenever I decide to drop in. [ huh? ] And lastly....
[ a long
dramatic
pause
before he scoops reirin up over one shoulder like a sack of potatoes. sorry about that but he still has to act the part of the dark dragon. ]
Oh yeah, and the lady right here.
[ HUH? however he does not give anyone time to protest before he's running away again. the real question is....how many people are following? ]
scarily enough the entire party starts running after him? JUST EVERYONE AT THIS PARTY YELLING AT HIM TO RETURN THEIR SWEET REIRIN!!! but luckily this stage does not last forever, and the scene disappears once Hak reaches the end of it. it's as if his dark dragon antics shocked the entire stage back to normal...
even Reirin is back to normal(?) as she dangles over his shoulder]
My, what an exciting kidnapping! This would make it my second one ever.
[ everyone is at risk of becoming a potato when in hak's vicinity.....
but sure, okay, they can all just go poof. he was expecting more of a fight but he'll take this too. why waste effort if he doesn't have to? but that does mean he will set reirin back down, more gently than he hoisted her up, while looking vaguely concerned. ]
[reirin's dearest goal in life... becoming potato... she nods!!!]
It was very similar to your attempt! Except that Unran and the others set the shrine and offerings on fire, and in the chaos, spirited me away, along with my brother. It was an excellent diversion.
Their magistrate was determined to make me the source of their hatred... That way, they would not suspect him of being the true culprit behind their ills.
[just a scapegoat for an evil govt official.... just like in any]
[hak.... her mentor, friend, kidnapper, and fellow cosigner of violence....!!!! stronger bonds have never been forged]
That is entirely thanks to Unran. While he kept me prisoner, he mentioned that the magistrate promised to lift their taxes if he subjected me to the cruelest of tortures. Fortunately, we reached a compromise instead!
Do not worry -- I received ample recompense from them! In fact, I cultivated all of their rice paddies and weeded their fields. Hehe. I also forced them to gather muck to throw at me, which I then turned into a new strain of fertilizer! And then I repaired the leaky storeroom I was imprisoned in!
week three

It was very similar to your attempt! Except that Unran and the others set the shrine and offerings on fire, and in the chaos, spirited me away, along with my brother. It was an excellent diversion.
[why is she praising the kidnapping]

Why'd they have to kidnap you? Couldn't he have just asked to take you away?

she shakes her head]
He was under orders to make it look like a crime... And at that time, he believed Kei -- me to be the harbinger of all his people's misfortunes.

also sorry but: ]
Harbinger of misfortune? You?

[just a scapegoat for an evil govt official.... just like in any]

Sounds like he should have been the one kidnapped and set on fire. Did they figure out it was him?
no subject
Not only that, but he should be trampled into the earth so that he may never rise his head even an inch above the ground!
[okay....]
That is, it is what I hope will happen -- but I arrived here before we could confront him of his crimes...
no subject
That'd be rude to whoever's trampling him.
[ but anyway. ]
How'd you figure out it was him?
no subject
That is entirely thanks to Unran. While he kept me prisoner, he mentioned that the magistrate promised to lift their taxes if he subjected me to the cruelest of tortures. Fortunately, we reached a compromise instead!

They were going to torture you?

It was the main condition on the contract...
[AS IF THAT MAKES IT OKAY]
no subject
You should beat them all up the next time you see them.

Do not worry -- I received ample recompense from them! In fact, I cultivated all of their rice paddies and weeded their fields. Hehe. I also forced them to gather muck to throw at me, which I then turned into a new strain of fertilizer! And then I repaired the leaky storeroom I was imprisoned in!
no subject
That sounds like you paying them back instead of the other way around. You should have just asked for money.
no subject
Hoho, therein lies the trick...! For I value the chance to do farm work far more than I do money.
[said like a fcking RICH GIRL]
no subject
Yeah, but you're just helping them out if you do their work for them. Then they'll just kidnap you again.
